Analyzing scientific and patent literature and considering foreign experience in application of the water chestnut in traditional and comlementary medicine, we made a conclusion concerning prospects of its application as a raw material for producing medicines and clinical nutrition products. It is shown, that due to specific composition of the water chestnut kernel, as well as presence of useful microelements and its antibacterial activity, the water chestnut can be considered as prospective medicinal raw material.
