QUALITY OF LIFE AFTER DECOMPRESSIVE CRANIECTOMY PERFORMED FOR ADULT PATIENTS WITH SEVERE TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY

Late fate of treatment of 75 patients with severe traumatic brain injury who had decompressive craniectomy during acute phase of the injury, were analyzed. A mortality rate within 6 months following the surgery made up 49.3%. Positive treatment result was obtained in 38.7% of patients. Average life quality value among the surviving patients made 73% of normal level. When determining indications for surgery, an intracranial pressure value, as measured invasively, must be taken into account.
