VARIATION AND CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TRANSVERSAL MALOCCLUSION

This study was carried in Odessa. The aim of the study was to investigate the variation in transversal malocclusion and space characteristics among children and adolescent in different age groups.

The patients were categorized into two age groups, 7–12 years (188 children) with early mixed dentition, 13–22 years (158 adolescents) with permanent dentition.

The results showed that 57.2 % of the patients had a transversal malocclusion. These included 57.6 % with maxillary micrognatis, 47 % with no spacing, 22.7 % with crowding, 42.8 % of these patients had other types of malocclusion. The results from the study also suggest that transversal malocclusion was found in the period of mixed and permanent dentition.
