THE CORTICOSTEROID NEURODISTROPHIC COMPONENT IN DEPRESSION PATHOGENESIS

The article concernes the participation of glucocorticoid mechanisms in pathogenesis of depression. An abundance of glucocorticoids inhibits neurogenesis, which is one of supporting mechanisms of neuronal ensembles morpho-functional integrity. The antidepressants restore an activity of multi-level system of glucocorticoids secretion regulation, diminish their damage action on neuronal ensembles, enhance neurotrophins expression and promote neurons vital activity.
