PECULIARITIES OF GLUTATHIONE-S-TRANSFERASE ACTIVITY IN CHILDREN UNDERGOING DIFFERENT POLLUTANTS’ INFLUENCE

We studied glutathione-S-transferase activity and allele distribution of GSTM1 & GSTT1 genes in children suffering from severe air pollution and living in radiation-contaminated territory. Activity of GST in GSTT1 АВ and GSTМ1 АВ carriers from the polluted territories was decreased and didn’t differ from the activity in GSTT1 0/0 and GSTM1 0/0 carriers. In control the GST activity in GSTT1 АВ and GSTМ1 АВ carriers was significantly higher than in “null” allel carriers. Individuals with decreased GST activity dominated among children, living in polluted regions.
