Current study deals with the prevalence of drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains in Mykolaiv region of Ukraine in 2003. Increasing of primary and acquired drug resistance rates to the certain drugs and multidrug resistance in 2003 comparing with the period of 2000–2002 is demonstrated. High effectiveness of molecular genetic methods in evaluation of drug resistance is shown. The cross sectional design of study allowed to demonstrate valid rates of primary and acquired drug resistance.
