There are considered pre-history and preconditions of the opening of the Novorossiysk University and in particular its medical faculty, at the basis of which the Odessa State Medical University was formed in future. It is described the activity of the doctors who were at the sources of the OSMU formation, as well a number of outstanding doctors-scientists, who became the pride of Odessa.
